About

This site serves as my personal portfolio where I share my thoughts, reflections, and insights on personal experiences as I build my “colorful” career since I started working in 2009 (straight out of college). Having filled in many roles, I have taken up several occupations that enabled me to see life through different lenses: as a tech support representative, an English teacher, a part-time philosophy professor, a graduate student, and a bilingual (Spanish and English) process analyst in a number of multinational companies — to name a few. Despite the many chapters I have so far written in this so-called “Book of Life”, there is this one thing that I keep on doing, namely my passion for writing.

I love writing. I am not a professional with degrees and titles to back it up. It is just rather a hobby I developed ever since we were taught to keep a journal back in the days when I had little to no knowledge about blogging.
Even my education may not fall under what many people might consider as “normal”. Instead of going to a university, I entered a seminary out of curiosity. I wanted to somehow “quench” my thirst for knowledge. I had questions that demanded profound answers — questions about the meaning and purpose of life, about the very fabric of our existence, of the existence of an Absolute Being, of why this (seemingly mad) being allows evil and misfortunes to befall upon us … These and many other questions developed in me the ability to pour my thoughts onto paper. In other words, my seminary education developed in me the discipline to constantly keep a journal in order to look back into them and see some patterns that would enable me to live a much more meaningful life. As the Danish philosopher, Soren Kiekegaard put it, “Life is can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards.”

Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) though, it is because of the same curiosity that I left the seminary. There is no other much clearer reason but the realization that the religious life is not for meant for me. It is my calling. After 4 years of prayer and discernment, I decided to focus on where I was good at – sharing and imparting knowledge. So, I ventured into a career in higher education. I did this for a good number of 6 years. Due to some restructuring of the education system in my country, many colleges and universities were left with no incoming freshmen. (See College professors fear massive retrenchment due to K12.) I, for one, was not spared. I had to quit teaching and to look for some other means to put bread on the table.

The seminary did not just develop in me the passion for writing, it also opened my doors into learning the Spanish language as we were made to take 12 credits of this language. Being bilingual does have its advantages, so I pursued a career as a Spanish resource for multinational companies, which for the time being is my bread and butter. (More of my career story here.)

When I started earning, l also started asking questions about what to do with my hard-earned money. I was then introduced to the idea of financial freedom. To put it simply, the sort of freedom wherein I do not have to work my ass off or life from paycheck to paycheck so that I can indulge in finer, better things in life. Things like raising a family (full time) and travelling. This all started when I read Robert Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad, Poor Dad and then the craving started to grow! Eventually, I read what I my hands can grab on to when it comes to personal finance, of saving and investing. Apparently, I am not a financial guru. I am just a yuppy who loves to share my knowledge of money matters and why it does from the point of view of personal experience.

Indeed, all I can offer are my experiences. I may have seized my teaching career, but that does not hinder me from sharing what I know. I may not be a native Spanish speaker, but I do have my share of experiences as a student of foreign language and my rich experiences and realizations as a bilingual employee in a corporate setup. These experiences combined with my passion to write are the reason why created this blog.

I write for writing’s sake. I blog simply because I love doing it and, in time, be good at it. And so, I write!
